World Health Summit 2026

Closing the Gaps in Sepsis Diagnosis and Care. Hosted by the Global Sepsis Alliance

Sepsis remains one of the World’s most urgent global health challenges, yet major gaps persist in early diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, follow-up, policy, and access to care.

Furthermore, 1/3 of sepsis patients die of infections related to Antimicrobial Resistance for which there is no treatment. Blood cancer patients are particularly susceptible due to the chemotherapy regimes used, which kill all blood cells, including white blood cells which act as the immediate immune response when a pathogen infects. These immunocompromised patients are also particularly susceptible to opportunistic infections.

Presenting at the World Health Summit

With global policymakers and medical communities in the room, Dr Nveed Chaudhary presented Jibraan’s story, and the learnings of which form the basis of the JCSR Foundation’s Research and Policy Strategy. Nveed spoke about the PIT Stop strategy, and explained that treatment of cancers, in particular blood cancers needs to be a cross-cutting multidisciplinary approach involving oncology (haematology), infectious diseases and Intensive care clinicians.
