At JCSR, we are committed to funding innovative research into chemotherapy-associated sepsis, with the aim of improving prevention, monitoring and treatment for people living with leukaemia and other cancers.
Understanding the Need
Sepsis can be a devastating complication for people undergoing chemotherapy. When the immune system is weakened, infections can develop quickly and become life-threatening.
We believe more research is needed to understand how we can identify sepsis earlier, improve treatment and ultimately give patients a better chance of survival. JCSR aims to support research into better prevention, treatment protocols and monitoring strategies.

Tackling chemotherapy-associated sepsis requires collaboration across research, healthcare, patient organisations, industry and policy.JCSR is already engaging in this wider collaboration.
In 2026, the Foundation was part of the founding group of the European Sepsis Alliance Working Group on Sepsis and Cancer, alongside organisations including Blood Cancer UK, the UK Sepsis Trust, Cancer Patients Europe and the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine. The group aims to bring together different perspectives to identify solutions around cancer and sepsis.
